“Lord, teach us to pray”

The basic components of physical growth are food and time. Our bodies must have food to grow and develop. And it takes time for our body to grow to its fullest potential.

In the simplest terms God’s word, prayer and time are absolutely essential to our spiritual growth. Through prayer God illuminates the truth of His word. It is also through prayer we commune with, and worship our heavenly Father. Through time, God prefects His sanctifying work in us, conforming us to His image for His glory and purpose.

Scripture:

Luke 11:1 Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”

Insight:

Prayer is a multifaceted discipline that is essential to our fellowship with God and one another. The many faceted dynamics of prayer is the canal through which God’s power flows to quell Satan’s plots, open hearts, minds and doors to the gospel. It is the current of the single minded, Kingdom focused prayers of God’s people that is a, if not the, determinative factor in the swiftness of Kingdom advance throughout the world.

Perhaps the biggest and most devastating failure of the church today is our lack of understanding regarding the strategic applications of prayer. It is this deficiency in our grasp of the purposes of prayer that has stunted our spiritual growth and left us defenseless against the cunning devices of our spiritual foe.
